Will Lord

Sculpture
Will sculpts primarily by welding steel in the form of Industrial Constructivism. Wood and stone are other materials of interest, all of which are gathered from the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
Will’s goal is to bring stillness to those who view his work, connecting people to Source while enriching both outdoor and indoor spaces. He intends his art to lead less to thinking and more to feeling; to bring people out of their heads and into the present moment.
He tries to let the body create in an intuitive way and not allow the mind to overcomplicate designs. An aesthetic theme is “ordered asymmetry” which, in its simplicity and abstraction, may bring about peace and presence to those interacting with the work. Inspired by folk artists, Will commonly creates on a single plane to evoke an a-dimensional quality, like another world or a dream. Circles, totems, and negative space are frequent motifs.
Garden Design
Will began gardening while working for the South Carolina EPA. Facing the extent of pollution in the US every day at his work, he needed a proactive active way to tend to the land. His first garden inspired him to leave the environmental field and pursue regenerative agriculture more seriously, going on to WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) for [three] years across [seven] states where he got hands on experience in holistic farming practices, notably Permaculture Design. Will went on to be certified as a Permaculture Designer first through Rancho Mastatal in Costa Rica, and again through Wild Abundance in Western North Carolina.
Since moving to North Carolina, Will has put learned skills to practice on personal and client properties, installing terraced vegetable gardens, orchard swales, and urban edible foodscaping. He blends classical garden elements with ecological models in designs to hold aesthetic beauty as one of the primary garden features.
